The Solacium fund is offered by the New India Assurance Scheme. It provides relief to people who have met with a hit-and-run accident, involving an unidentified vehicle.

• If a person is seriously injured, she/he can get Rs.12,500.
• If she/he is killed, the family can receive Rs.25,000.
• No money needs to be paid by the individual to benefit from this scheme.
• The person need not be insured at the time of the accident.

The claim application should be made to the Tehsildar within six months from the date of the accident. You also need to give him the following documents:

• A copy of the FIR made at the time of accident
• A certificate from the doctor confirming the injury
• A post mortem report in the event of death
• In the case of death, a death certificate must also be deposited.

The tehsildar with your application. He will submit his report within one month to the District Collector. After being certified by the Collector, this is sent to the New India Assurance who will pay you the appropriate amount.
